Introduction

Wargame Red Dragon is the 3rd title in the spectacular Wargame series of real-time strategy games created by Eugen Systems. The series quickly became a new reference point in the RTS genre, beginning with European Escalation, and then its direct sequel, AirLand Battle.

Wargame Red Dragon retains the same core game mechanics that have made the series so successful, but the action leaves Europe for the first time and moves to a conflict in Asia between 1975 and 1991.

Wargame Red Dragon once again stretches the limits of the RTS genre, including: dynamic and tense gameplay that demands strategic vision and depth; a spectacular and realistic visual experience; new features such as the warships and maritime units; a perfected dynamic campaign system and much more. 1991 – War between NATO and the Pact intensifies. The two Superpowers battle fiercer than ever on a new battleground, Asia, joined by their new allies: Japan, China, North Korea, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

Take command of the entirety of the military resources of the 17 nations engaged in war, and build your own army thanks to a phenomenal array of 1450 units! Lead your tanks, aircraft, helicopters, as well as the new maritime warships and amphibious units, in spectacular battles of unmatched strategic depth. Master the relief of varied and ultra-realistic battlefields as large as 100sq.m to gain the high ground over your enemy!
War scales up once again. Brief your armies, we are now boarding for Asia!

Solo Campaign

Wargame Red Dragon takes the best elements from AirLand Battle's dynamic campaign system, removing its flaws and improving every aspect, to deliver more tense and dynamic gameplay. You command large-scale operations in different scenarios and diverse locations in Asia, where NATO forces, the armies of the Warsaw Pact, and their new allies clash in exciting confrontations. Every decision you make will exert a real influence and have consequences on the events that play out.

Your victories and defeats, whether you achieve your objectives, and even the random political forces at work itself will impact on the political confidence of your side. All of which will be a vital factor in obtaining reinforcements and strategic back-up that may be crucial for victory, such as new battlegroups, missile strikes, reconnaissance missions, assignments deep into enemy territory by special forces, and tactical nuclear weapons.

Unlike AirLand Battle, the fighting in Red Dragon doesn’t commence when two enemy battlegroups clash. Here hostilities only start on the initiative of one of the two sides and, in particular, all the battlegroups in the sector are engaged in combat simultaneously! In addition to making the campaign more thrilling and dynamic, this also opens up additional opportunities, So diverse battlegroups can be combined to plug any gaps, or you can employ a poker tactic to go “all-in” by opting to flood an enemy-controlled sector with all your battlegroups to ensure you capture it… but be careful deploying this type of strategy, because your other territories will be left defenseless!

Once battle commences, you switch to a tactical view to fight in real time, and your forces comprise all the battlegroups you have selected for this confrontation. These remain with you throughout the campaign and the units involved will gain experience that makes them more effective with every battle... but bear in mind that losses are also permanent!

So take great care to conserve your personnel and resources, because you may urgently need your experienced units for a decisive battle later on. Plan your tactics for a long-term strategy: losing ground and sacrificing some units to neutralize enemy anti-air defenses could be the prelude to a victorious counterattack in your next skirmish.

The different sectors in the theater of war have varying levels of importance; therefore seizing a capital city will have a profound political impact but won’t directly affect your military operations. Conversely, controlling the sea ports and airports will enable you to intensify the flow of deployment of reinforcements and will present fresh strategic possibilities.

The various battlegroups (Marines, Parachutists, Airborne, Armored, etc.) provide different formations and strengths, and the option to "combine" these battlegroups in combat offers a vast number of strategic alternatives! Another conflict is brewing... choose your side and set out for the new theater of war: Asia!

Multiplayer mode

EugenNet© online services enable Wargame Red Dragon to deploy a multiplayer mode that is not only integral, but also user friendly and easy to access (Siege, Domination, Conquest, Economic War). Create your own team or your clan, and set up games or tournaments between teams and players. Each round can host from 2 to 20 players simultaneously for exciting gameplay!

Organize friendly matches for fun skirmishes between friends, or step up your game and choose the competition level, with ELO-calculated official rankings and a matchmaking support tool that finds worthy opponents for you. Furthermore, victory requirements and map balancing have been completely revised to encourage all strategies!

Develop your game tactics and create an army that matches your gameplay by customizing your army ‘Decks’. Will you go for swarm tactics with many inefficient but inexpensive tanks, or will you attempt to manage costly but outstanding elite squads? If what you wish is to throw yourself in the midst of battle without delay, a whole selection of themed ‘Decks’ is at your disposal right from the start.

But eventually, only the tactical acumen of each player will determine the outcome of the war. Do you have what it takes to make your way to the very top of the worldwide rankings?

IRISZOOM Engine v4

Built upon the already impressive foundations of AirLand Battle's engine, Red Dragon pushes the IRISZOOM even further with its 4th version.

The huge maps - up to 150km², faithfully reproduced from satellite imagery and simultaneously showing millions of objects - have yet again gained in detail, accuracy and realism, but also in variety: with Asia becoming the new battleground of Wargame, the game's numerous battlefields are now all notably different from each other. They all have a very specific relief, environment, as well as water areas that take a whole new level of importance with the arrival of naval warships and amphibious units.

Over 1450 different units are modeled, their details given particular attention: tanks, combat helicopters, infantry squads, artillery, support vehicles, anti-air batteries, aircraft, and now the naval units with countless warships. Each model is extremely detailed and true to the original vehicles. You can zoom in on each of them to pick out the smallest bolts, or even the pilots inside their cockpits! Air units such as helicopters and planes even have their own flight models and move realistically across the battlefield.

From explosions to lights, firing effects to high-resolution textures, sound effects to image post-processing effects, everything in the engine was overhauled to create Wargame's ultra-realistic battlefields.

🌍️ Wikipedia:

Wargame: Red Dragon is a real-time strategy video game developed by Eugen Systems and published by Focus Home Interactive, released on April 17, 2014. It is the sequel to the 2013 Wargame: AirLand Battle.

Gameplay

Wargame: Red Dragon includes 21 nations and over 1,900 units to play with. The game is set in East Asia during an alternate history Cold War where the Soviet Union doesn't collapse and featuring five new Asia Pacific factions: China, North Korea, South Korea, Japan and the ANZAC. The battlefield is viewed from a top-down perspective, giving the player an overview of the action. The player can decide which units they want to deploy before a battle, creating a deck of specific individual units. The player can choose from infantry, various forms of armored units, air forces, and naval forces, with further customization available, e.g. choosing between infantry with anti-aircraft or anti-armor capabilities, or whether to deploy air-superiority aircraft or ones suited for supporting ground forces. The opposing sides will typically start on opposite sides of the battlefield, with both parties being awarded an initial amount of deployment points that determine how many units they can spawn at the start of the battle. Units in the game have several attributes such as their amount of fuel or ammunition; If a unit runs out of fuel or ammunition, it will be unable to move or shoot, respectively. Players can manage these attributes by deploying supply units which repair and re-arm units. Units also have morale which can degrade under heavy attack, reducing the unit's combat effectiveness and potentially causing it to rout, leaving it unresponsive to player commands.

Following initial deployment, players must gradually hold and secure additional designated zones on the map by deploying special command units and supporting forces to them. Holding these zones awards the player with additional deployment points over time, allowing them to bring in additional units during the course of a battle. Any units ordered during the battle will arrive from a specific command point; a deployment zone typically located on the edge of the map from which units ordered will enter the battle. If such a point is lost, the player will be unable to call in reinforcements until it is re-secured. They will lose the game if they possess no units with which to capture a deployment zone. Other ways of losing include running out of units and having fewer points than the enemy at the end of the battle.
