📕 Description [en]

📕🐧"blabla"🐧📕

Steam:

Jagged Alliance is back – and it is all about the unique mix of turn based tactics, fierce battles, squad management and crazy mercenary personalities.

It is 1988 on the Caribbean island group of San Hermanos. A corrupt leader has the islands in his grasp ... yet a group of rebels fights for democratic values and freedom. However, once the head of the rebels is arrested, the insurgents quickly dissolve. Arriving on the island, the player’s mission is to help the rebellion before things take a turn for the worse.

Take control of your own band of mercenaries, lead them into battle and manage your resources wisely. Fight back for freedom, sector by sector, turn by turn. Like the original Jagged Alliance series, Jagged Alliance Flashback gives you the choice to use your preferred tactics and build your squad around it – rush in with heavy armed troops or take the high road of distance shots and sniping.

More features and content will be added on a regular basis, and together with your feedback and support we will shape this game to be the best Jagged Alliance game yet! Please feel free to give us your comments, your thoughts and your recommendations. We listen to every one of you.

Humble Store:

A tropical island, a corrupt leader and a team of mercenaries – take down the dictator and bring peace to the island of San Hermanos!

San Hermanos at the end of the 1980s: An elected leader called “The Prince” does not play by the rules – a rebellious group tries to overthrow him, however, they are powerless against the military forces controlled by The Prince. The rebel leader gets arrested, the revolutionary army dissolves ...

The CIA is concerned with the current situation on San Hermanos. They fear that The Prince is a well known weapons dealer and they hire YOU to interfere. Your orders: Lead a squad of mercenaries, free the rebel leader and eliminate The Prince – by all means necessary.

Once you arrive on San Hermanos to get the rebel leader out of prison, things however take a different turn ... they always do, don’t they?

History of the Jagged Alliance Franchise:

Jagged Alliance was first released in 1994 and is still counted as one the best turn based strategy games of its time. After the release of Jagged Alliance 2 in 1999 the series slipped back into the cold war and received a reboot in 2010 with Jagged Alliance – Back in Action, which received mixed reactions from the community and press after its departure from Turn-Based action gameplay.

The game is based on the cult classics Jagged Alliance and Jagged Alliance 2. The game is set in the early 90’s at the end of the Cold War and therefore takes place before the original titles. Jagged Alliance is a digital turn based strategy game with cheesy jokes and 80’s styled one-liners, intense tactical combat in an open world environment and various RPG elements.

The game is developed in close cooperation with the community and there is a high focus on modding abilites for users, which is also why we plan to make an editor availabl for all to use. The game is set to launch on PC, Mac and Linux and will be localized to English, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish.

Gameplay with Guns

I know what is going through your head. You’re thinking; “Dude, we know what the games are about so how do we PLAY?”. Well, ladies and gentlemen, worry not because that is exactly what we are going to be discussing in this post. To make sure we do not miss anything, we will discuss the gameplay and game mechanics under the following headings; Gameplay, Map and Tactical Screen.

Gameplay

Due to the differing stories in each game, players are spawned in different locations. In Jagged Alliance, the player starts in a room everyday from which mercenaries can be hired, setting can be changed, the game can be loaded and saved and the player character can sleep till the next day. Jagged Alliance 2, thrusts the player directly onto the field where they control their team of mercs to explore and reclaim towns. In all games, the player can hire new mercenaries and obtain better and more powerful weapons.

Map

At the start of each new day, the player is placed on the map of whatever region that particular game is based in. In Jagged Alliance it is Metavira, in Jagged Alliance 2 it’s Arulco and in Jagged Alliance: Crossfire, it is Khaanpa. The map in every game uses a square grid system that displays vital information about the area and game to the player like the number of fallow trees present in a particular sector. Other vital information displayed include, which sector is player or enemy controlled, the number of guards in a sector and the terrain information. In Jagged Alliance, mercenaries, tappers and guards can also be paid or have their earnings increased on this screen.

Jagged Alliance 2 however, is slightly different in terms of scale. Here the map screen displays the world map of Arulco. The square grid system is still implemented and also shows the player and enemy forces deployed. Viewing the game in this mode allows the player to control the flow of time (by speeding it up or pausing) and the movement of their forces. This strategic screen of the game also grants access to the laptop feature of the game. The laptop feature is exactly as it sounds. It is an in-game laptop that allows players to receive emails from characters in the game, hire new ones and fire the unwanted ones. Weapons and equipment can also be purchased from this ‘laptop’.

Tasks can also be given to mercenaries with this screen like, mercs with med-kits tending to the wounded (this speeds up recovery), mercs with tools and mechanical skills assigned to repair damaged equipment, weapons and armor. Mercenaries can also increase skill levels by being a trainer or a student. Trainers increase experience in their chosen skill and may also train locals to be militias. Militias defend areas when mercs are away on missions. Transportation can be done on foot or with transports (i.e. ground or aerial vehicles).

Tactical Screen

In Jagged Alliance, the player is taken to the sector previously picked for the mission with the mercenaries and gear chosen. The camera is oriented to allow the player view the action from a top-down perspective. Now the player can directly command mercenaries and issue orders to move. Mercenaries can be moved to an adjacent sector and players are limited to one save slot per day.

Once both player and enemy forces are in the same sector, the game switches to turn-based play. Both sides can perform actions which use up action points. The amount of points used up depends on character attributes. Rugged terrain also increases the amount of action points used. Mercenaries can also perform certain actions like walking stealthily to avoid detection and crouching to reduce the chances of taking hits by making the character a smaller target. Special actions like these use up more action points. It is possible to interrupt a character in the middle of an action. Both players and the A.I. are vulnerable to this. Battles can be interrupted by the day ending. This can cause higher casualties for players’ mercs as they are vulnerable while retreating from enemy sectors.

In Jagged Alliance 2, the camera is tilted to give an isometric viewpoint. The terrain can be easily seen, buildings can be explored and items can be found. While a conventional fog of war is not in effect, NPCs remain invisible to the player until they enter the player’s character’s field of vision. The actions are still the same as the ones in Jagged Alliance with the new ones added to enable characters traverse new terrain and obstacles.

The Story in the Games

The plot and the setting of each game in the series is different. Yes, the same concept has pretty much remained constant in every game, the story behind why the players must go through all they experience and why it’s worth it in the end varies from game to the game. Now, let us take a look at the plot summary of each installment of the game in the series.

Jagged Alliance

This is the first game in the franchise and was released for DOS in 1994 and Nintendo DS in 2009. The setting for this game is on a fictional island in the South Atlantic that used to be a testing site for nuclear weapons. The fallout (haha) of the testing altered some of the trees on the island that were later discovered to produce a special sap. This sap was later discovered by scientist Brenda Richards to be a medical marvel. Oh yeah, she also discovered that the trees were sterile and could not reproduce. These trees are called fallow trees.

Following the trope of good guy being betrayed by a partner or subordinate, Brenda’s assistant Lucas Santino realised how much money could be made from the sap. He managed to convince Jack Richards the leader of the mission and Brenda’s father that two independent teams were needed. Santino eventually set up a base on the other side of the island and slowly took over by force provided by his recruits.

The game starts when you the player are contacted by jack Richards and invited to the island where Jack and Brenda request that you recruit mercenaries from the Association of International Mercenaries (A.I.M) to take back the island sector by sector.

Jagged Alliance 2

The sequel to the original game was designed strictly for PC. It was released in 1999 for Windows and adapted for Linux by Tribsoft. It is the third game in the series. Hold on. I know what you’re thinking; “Dude, what happened to the second game?”. The thing is, the second game Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games is considered as more of a spin off than a real continuation plus it doesn’t really have a story either. Moving on.

This time we are thrust into the fictional country of Arulco that was ruled by a unique system of government called Democratic Monarchy. Monarchs ruled the country but held elections every 10 years to legitimize their rule. This continued until the 1980’s. In 1988, a candidate known as Enrico Chivaldori took a Romanian wife Deidranna Reitman in order to boost his popularity. He succeeded but his new bride was not satisfied with being a simple pawn. Her insatiable lust for power drove her to frame her husband for the death of his father which enabled her to remove all threats to her power and establish an authoritarian government. Of course Enrico managed to escape by faking his own death and that’s where we come in.

The game starts when Enrico hires the player to remove Deidranna from power. He connects the player and their team to rebels in the northern town of Omerta. Omerta is severely damaged and nearly deserted. The player is then guided to the city of Drassen by the rebel leader and ex opponent of Enrico, Miguel Cordona.

The game also has a special sci-fi mode where “unrealistic” enemies appear. The Crepitus are a species of giant insects that live underground and infest mines. They occasionally come to the surface to engage players.

Jagged Alliance: Unfinished Business

Also known as Jagged Alliance 2.5, this game is a short mission based standalone that involves disabling a missile base stationed in Tracona a neighbouring country to Arulco. The antagonists are the original owners of the Arulco mines who are demanding the mines be returned to them.

Jagged Alliance: Crossfire

This takes place shortly after the events of Jagged Alliance 2in the small micro nation of Khaanpa in Asia. The discovery of a temple with a large deposit of Coltan Ore sparks off a religious conflict with the Jenitenn cult at the center of it. The ambassador decides to take matter into his own hands after the UN’s refusal to send a peacekeeping force. He hires A.I.M to defuse the threat.

As you can see, the plotlines of the main games in the series are very different and connected to one another. So not only are players deeply engaged by the game play, they are also involved in the story.
