Deadfall Adventures is an action-driven first-person shooter, spiced up with elements from action-adventure games. The main goal of the game is to give the player the opportunity to become an adventurer, hunt for treasures, explore unknown regions of the world and rescue the damsel in distress from the clutches of enemies, both earthly and not-so-earthly.
Deadfall Adventures is the first game in a first-person perspective that explores the Lost World and Action-Adventure genre, which was popularized through novels (like the Quatermain-novels by H. R. Haggard), pulp magazines and of course various films and games.
Adventurer’s Equipment
In addition to a variation of weapons, the player acquires various pieces of permanent equipment over the course of the game.
This includes:
• A compass that helps the player find hidden treasures
• A flashlight that can be used to solve puzzles and to “persuade” certain enemy types
• A notebook that holds helpful hints about traps and puzzles
• A knife for close-combat slicing & dicing
• Notes and maps that can be found throughout the levels, to help the player navigate through them
Treasures, Traps & Puzzles
As most adventurers, James Lee Quatermain likes to collect treasures, particularly if they’re made of gold. But the gold from the temples that he encounters in Deadfall Adventures is special, it also upgrades his stats like health, stamina etc. (for reasons you will find out over the course of the story).
The treasures are optional, the player doesn’t have to collect them, but is encouraged to try and find them and overcome the traps that usually protect them. Traps in the game include among others: spikes, fire traps, falling rocks, trapdoors, exploding gas, blades, pendulum blades and urns full of deadly insects. Some traps are mere obstacles for the player, others can be triggered by shooting at them, thus making them an extension of the arsenal of the player. ‘Cause why waste bullets, when you can shower your enemies with spikes or rocks.
Story Overview
The year is 1938. James Lee Quatermain, great-grandson of the world-famous adventurer Allan Quatermain, is a man of many talents, yet holding on to money isn’t one of them. Quatermain isn’t all too keen on escorting Jennifer Goodwin, a US agent and former colleague of his, to an Egyptian temple complex in order to retrieve an ancient artifact - The Heart of Atlantis. Neither does he believe in the reputed invigorating qualities of this artifact, nor does he care that a division of the Ahnenerbe, the Nazi department specialized in the occult, is after The Heart as well.
But life has its ways of changing one’s perspective. Quatermain soon finds himself part of a hunt across the globe - from the stormy deserts of Egypt to the icy depths of the Arctic and all the way to the steaming jungles of Guatemala.
In the long-forgotten temple complex, the thrill of the chase awakens the true adventurer in Quatermain, as he and Agent Goodwin strive to be one step ahead of the Nazis and the Russians, one step closer to obtaining the Heart of Atlantis. And deep in these temples, where age-old guardians awake from their eternal slumber, James soon learns that his great-grandfather’s stories are not as crazy as he had always believed. For all things live forever, though at times they sleep and are forgotten.

Gameplay
Deadfall: Adventures is a first person action-adventure video game. The protagonist is a treasure hunter. The games takes place during the World War II era. The player fights Nazi Soldiers and supernatural enemies through various environments like Egypt, Arctic and Maya ruins. The player has a compass that helps him to find hidden treasures which are optional but help in boosting health and stamina. The player also has to avoid and overcome traps and solve puzzles which guard the traps. The player can use Allan Quartermain's notebook which helps them to solve puzzles and overcome traps. Traps can also be used to impale enemies. The player also carries a flashlight which helps them to traverse dark areas and fend off supernatural enemies like mummies which can only be harmed after the player focuses their flashlight to soften them up. The player can use various weapons like revolver and shotgun and can also use a knife for melee combat.
Setting
The story takes place in the year 1938, with players assuming the role of famous adventurer Allan Quartermain’s great-grandson, James Lee Quatermain. James’s goal is to play escort to a US agent as they travel to Egypt in search for “The Heart of Atlantis”. Along the way, rival organizations such as the Nazis and Russians will be looking to obtain this device for their own purposes. Other supernatural elements such as mummies also play a part in the quest for The Heart of Atlantis.
